Project overview
In October 2021, Sheffield City Council found that the demand for application training had been increasing dramatically over the previous 18 months. A remote workforce meant that the knowledge of colleagues was no longer accessible which, when combined with an increase in recruitment, meant they had to search for a flexible training option.
When ICT Revolutions first approached Sheffield, we offered a free demo to the training team. The results were that the videos were judged to be high quality, met the learning outcomes well and the ability to access single modules as a refresher was also advantageous. 9/13 people said they would be happy to receive training this way.
ICT Revolutions was able to offer the “Quick Start” modules for their System C Liquidlogic LAS application – a suite of 10 bite sized modules which could be viewed anywhere, on any device and be uploaded into Sheffield’s current LMS as SCORM compliant videos. In addition to this, Sheffield identified a need to have some more in depth “Workflow” courses to cement specific training needs around Contacts, effective searching and the Case File. We also offered updates to be finalised once they had been upgraded.
Implementation
When ICT Revolutions first started working with Sheffield, our Quick Start course had only 9 sessions. We worked closely with Sheffield to update and improve the current courses to meet generic training needs, and with their assistance developed a 10th session on Navigating Forms. We also scoped and developed two Workflow courses which were a mixture of generic and Sheffield bespoke content where their configuration was unique. The scripts were prepared, sent to Sheffield for comment and then recorded and put together in house. There was then a second review process of the completed courses to ensure Sheffield had covered every need.
As Sheffield have their own LMS, the completed courses were made available for download via SharePoint, complete with subtitles, recommended exercises and quiz questions.

Achievements
With Sheffield’s valuable input, we were able to “fine tune” our Quick Start course to cover common issues found in training which often cause issues later on – effective searching prevents duplication of records, for example. The result was a Quick Start course which could be rolled out within hours and is suitable for all new starters. We were also to begin development on the Workflow courses and have implemented a cost-effective method of including bespoke elements, but not at a bespoke cost!
Lessons Learned
The current trend appears to be moving away from pure video content. PDF guides to accompany the videos, interactive “hot spots” and more involved training methods were increasingly being suggested so we made the decision to move to our own, EasyGenerator based LMS which offers all of that, and more!
